A guide to Keratin Hair Extensions

SO.CAP USA ® Hair Extensions come in a variety of colors and are made of the finest cuticle aligned (REMY) 100% human hair. The pre-tipped keratin protein bond makes it easy to apply without containing any wax or glue. They are virtually undetectable and easy to maintain. Some of the benefits of hair extensions are that they can lengthen, add volume and/or thicken fine or thinning hair. You can add fashion colors to natural hair without the damage of chemicals or affecting the integrity of the client's own hair.

With our safe and varied hair extensions options, it is easy to give your customer what they are looking for immediately despite the texture, length and/or density of their own hair. You can give your clients long luxurious hair in a matter of hours instead of months or years. In addition, since extensions are not only for adding length, you can give them the thickness, fullness or the color options they have always longed for without chemicals.

Client Consultation:

· A consultation should be a scheduled appointment in private.

· Determine if they are a candidate for hair extensions before continuing with your consultation.

· Match the color in the same area on the client's head where it will be applied.

· Blending in more than one color or length, will give the client a more natural look.

THE HAIR

SO.CAP.USA® Hair Extensions are made of 100% human Remy hair. Remy hair still possesses the cuticle layer, which is the outermost part of the hair strand; it resembles shingles on a roof. All Remy hair has the cuticle layer of the hair flowing in the same direction, as it would naturally.

Remy hair with mono-directional hair cuticles

Non- Remy Hair with multi-directional hair cuticles

The cuticle layer is important when concerned with hair tangling, longevity and how well the hair shines. When the cuticle layer is closed and intact, the hair is capable of reflecting light and detangles simply and easily.

Our pre-tipped SO.CAP.USA® strand by strand hair extension bonds are made of keratin protein, NO wax or glue is used. Keratin is the key structural component of hair. Bonding a keratin protein tip to hair made up of keratin protein ensures the integrity of the client's own hair. The pre-tipped hair is integrated to the client’s hair with a strand by strand fusion technique.

SO.CAP.USA® Hair Extensions are packaged in ten pieces or one hundred pieces per pack and come in over 80 different shades. They are available in three textures - straight, wavy and curly; and 3 lengths - 14-16", 18-20" and 24-28". All of these options allow you the freedom to match your client’s desired style without limitations.

If it becomes necessary to color the extensions, it is recommended that a semi-permanent deposit-only color is used to ensure the integrity of the hair and its cuticle layer. If your client requires a root touch-up while they are wearing hair extensions, whether it is a single process color and/or highlights, it can be done without having to remove their extensions. It is important, though, to protect the bonds of the hair extensions as well as the extension hair. Remember, NEVER put hair color containing more than a 3% (10 volume) peroxide or bleach lightener on SO.CAP.USA® Hair Extensions.

COLOR

When selecting the color(s) for the client's extensions, it is important that you and the client do this together during your consultation. We DO NOT suggest handing our color ring to the client and having them pick out a color. This can result in an unfavorable outcome. Remember, you are your client's beauty consultant and have the authority. They will need you, the stylist, to guide them.

It is important to first determine the color of the client's own hair. Using the color ring, you can determine what color matches the client's hair color. Using more than one color in the extensions can produce the most natural results.

SO.CAP.USA® has three different types of color swatches on the color ring to choose from.

· The single numeric colors consist of one single color.

· The Fantasy colors are intense, pure based colors such as red, blue, pink and purple.

· The ‘M’ colors are the Mixed or highlight/lowlight colors. They are a beautiful blend of equal amounts of two colors on a single strand.

· The “T” colors are the two-toned colors. They are a beautiful blend of color that create the Shatush Effect.

· Color and texture availability is varied.

· All 90+ colors are available in straight texture. The majority of colors are available wavy and curly textures. Only a selected few are not.

· All fantasy colors are available in straight only.

DETERMINING THE NUMBER OF STRANDS

What do you need?

Straight, Wavy, Curly texture? Short, Long or Extra Long hair?

Use this formula to determining the number of strands needed for a FULL head application.

Application for a full head, the average number of strands is 100-150 pieces.

10-30 pieces more if the hair is thick

10-30 pieces less if the hair is very thin

If achieving length, the longer you are lengthening you will need 20-50 more strands. When ordering the hair always order 10 extra pieces than you think you might need. You may need them! If you don't need them that's great! The client has already covered the cost of the hair. You have saved the shipping costs on hair you can use for her first maintenance appointment. Do not release the extra hair to your client. By storing them, you will be certain that the client returns back to you.

Remember this hair is yours and if you need it for a walk-in or someone who wants to try hair extensions, you can use the hair without any extra cost.

Order hair strategically, keeping in mind the hairstyle you are trying to achieve. For example in some situations, you can order 14-16" for the nape are and 18-20" for the sides and crown area. This prevents the need to cut away some of the length that may not be needed and is much more financially efficient.

This formula is used to determining the number of strands needed for a FULL head application. Using your tape measure, take measurements of your client's head as follows:

1. Measure 1" inside the center front hair line to bottom of occipital bone.

2. Measure across the crown of the head from 1" inside hair line at ear to 1" inside hair line at the other ear.

Once you have your measurements, use the following formula to determine the number of strands needed.

Take the first measurement, from front center back to the occipital bone (example: 10"), then crown measurement, from 1" inside ear to ear (example: 9"), and multiply these two measurements.

For example: 10 x 9 = 90.

Next, take the resulting number and multiply it by two.

For example 90 x 2 = 180

The final number is the approximate amount of strands you will need to do a full head of extensions on the client. You can adjust this number when determining how many of the extensions will be 1/2 graphs. This may reduce the number of pieces, but keep in mind that you may want to order the full amount of extensions calculated so that you will have extra pieces remaining for client maintenance appointments. Always keep on hand extra strands of hair to replace those that may fall out due to natural shedding. Do not release the extra pieces of hair extensions to your client. By storing them for the client, you will be certain that the client returns back to you, the trained, certified stylist for any maintenance. You don’t want them to ruin your good work by having another stylist perform their extension service.

Order hair strategically, keeping in mind the hairstyle you are trying to achieve. For example in some situations, you can order 14-16” for the nape area and 18-20” for the sides and crown area. This prevents the need to cut away some of the length that may not be needed and is less wasteful.
